Flooded Basement From Burst Pipe, Rockville MD

This was a flooded basement in Rockville, MD, caused by a burst pipe, where a large amount of water spread across the basement and entered the walls.

We first coordinated with a plumber who found and fixed the broken pipe, so the issue wouldn’t continue before we started the cleanup.

Once we began opening things up, we saw that in one area, the water had entered from the middle of the wall. Because of that, we had to remove the drywall from floor to ceiling in that section to make sure everything inside was properly dried.

In other parts of the basement, the damage was less severe, so we removed only the bottom section of drywall (about 1 foot), along with the baseboards, to access the wet areas.

After that, we set up drying equipment and focused on the walls, floors, and framing, checking moisture levels along the way to make sure everything was drying as it should.

Once the basement was fully dry, we handled the repairs as well — new drywall, painting, baseboards, and carpet, bringing the space back to normal.

FAQ

Shut off the main water if you can, and call a professional as soon as possible. The faster the water is removed and the area is dried, the less damage you’ll have.

Yes, if it’s not dried correctly. That’s why opening the right areas and drying everything thoroughly is so important.

Not always. It depends on how far the water reached. In this case, some areas only needed lower sections removed, while one wall had to be opened from top to bottom because water got in from the middle.
